ra mcguire bio

One of the two founding members of Trooper, Ra McGuire was born in 1950 in Vancouver, BC. He began singing professionally at the age of 12. He's written or co-written well over 200 songs - 100 of which have been recorded and released, a dozen of which have topped the charts. He's received multiple song writing awards and a West Coast Juno for "Best Male Vocalist". In 2012, McGuire was honoured with a SOCAN National Achievement Award, which is presented to artists who have had outstanding success over the span of their song writing career.

Ra co-manages Trooper, is the president of Great Pacific Records and P.O.P. Publishing. He's currently under contract with Universal Music, BMG Music, Warner Music, and Sony/ATV Publishing. He's an active member of SOCAN, ACTRA, The Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists, AVLA and The American Federation of Musicians Local 145.

He's a best selling author (check out his book, "Here for a Good Time", here), writes for publications such as The Loop Magazine, and is an occasional national radio and TV personality.

An unintended side-career as a political shit disturber resulted in the spearheading, with his wife, of a three-year campaign that resulted in the birth of Surrey's first Fine Arts school, and an unsuccessful two-year effort to convince city hall to limit building heights in their hometown. In April, 2012, Ra and Debbie McGuire were awarded the World Harmony Run's Torchbearer Award for their "collaborative commitment to inspire cultural harmony and community spirit through music, and champion the importance of fine arts in education".

Ra is an avid writer, photographer, reader, Apple fanboy/shareholder, amateur film-maker, graphic artist and web designer. He's produced a dozen or more albums, most notably the first for his talented son, Connor McGuire. He's been married for more than 40 years and lives with his beloved and talented wife, Debbie, in White Rock, BC, the fish and chips capitol of the world.
